Elaine Tuttle Hansen was the president of Bates College in Lewiston, Maine from 2002 through June 2011. She became the Executive Director of The Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins University in July 2011. Hansen graduated ''cum laude'', Phi Beta Kappa from Mount Holyoke College in 1969. She received her M.A. from the University of Minnesota in 1972 and Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 1975. Hansen served as the Provost of Haverford College from 1995–2002 and was a Professor of English at Haverford from 1980-2002. She also was an Assistant Professor of English at Hamilton College from 1978-1980. Hansen is a scholar of Chaucer and Middle English. Hansen recently oversaw Bates' $120 million campaign. In 2005 Hansen taught a Short Term class on Chaucer at Bates.
